About
Observe first,then press record
A photography and film studio in Hamburg, run by two brothers, with a documentary approach and a clear visual language.
Who we are
What started with two brothers and their cameras became VZN Brothers.
Our work ranges from concerts, sport and culture to business portraits, weddings and brand work. Different settings, the same way of working.
We prefer pictures that feel honest and carefully made over ones that feel overworked. That is why we take time for research, light and people.
One of us leans more towards planning and structure, the other towards the room and the people in it. That balance shapes how we work.
How we work
Four things that shape every job
01
Observe first
Understand the context before anything is recorded. The camera comes up once we know what is actually happening in the room.
02
We take our time
We take time for research, light and people. Rushing a set usually shows in the result.
03
Presence, not spectacle
The camera does not need to announce itself. We work quietly and let the room do the rest.
04
Different strengths, one team
Photography and film, story and structure, intuition and precision. That combination shapes how we approach each project.
Who we work with
We like working with people who care — about their work, their community, or their message.
Whether it is a couple, a company, a cultural project or a personal portrait, we want pictures that still hold up in a few years.

Marcel
Creative Strategy · Business Development · Film Production
I’m Marcel, co-founder of VZN Brothers, photographer, planner and probably the more tech-obsessed of the two of us. I started photographing in 2008 during a high school exchange year in Montana, USA. That year showed me how photography can bring people closer to places and lives they have never seen.
Since then, I have travelled a lot, usually with a camera. My goal is to set foot on every continent before I turn 40, not as a checklist, but to experience and understand more of the world. Photography is one way I share what I find there and question easy assumptions about places and people.
After high school, I studied Economics in Germany and Poland, and finished with an M.Sc. in International Business & Management in the Netherlands — three countries, three perspectives, and one growing desire to explore more of the world. I later started working in IT consulting and spent seven years managing projects, leading teams, and developing solutions.
At VZN Brothers, I take care of much of what happens behind the scenes: planning, logistics and technical details. I check the gear twice, keep the files safe and make sure the schedule holds, so the production can stay focused.

Norman
Creative Production · Client Relations · Photography & Film
My name is Norman. Pictures can say things words cannot. Photography and film let me hold on to energy, character and moments that matter. I am drawn to cultures, ways of life, ambitions, sport and faces because they show how differently people move through the world.
For many years, my culture was basketball, hip hop, and street life. A foot injury moved me from the court to the sidelines — from playing to observing. I didn’t lose my spirit as an athlete, but I gained new perspectives. And I’m grateful for that.
Today, I use my camera to make potential visible and give space to stories that are often overlooked. What matters to me is helping people recognise what is strong and real about themselves. The camera is the tool I use for that.
I have been photographing for over 12 years, both personally and professionally. My work has also taken me in front of the camera: I appeared in a national TV commercial and learned first-hand what it feels like to be directed and portrayed.
As co-founder of VZN Brothers, I bring together experience, empathy and technical skill, whether I am photographing one person or working on a larger brand production.
Together
What working with two of us changes
Photo and film, one team
When a project combines photography and film, both come from the same briefing and the same production. No second crew, no second briefing, no two versions of the same event.
Two rooms at once
Parallel tracks, a portrait station next door, or a stage and a foyer that both matter. We can split up without losing sight of either.
One contact, start to end
You talk to the people who will be standing in the room. Nothing gets handed to a producer you have never met.
Work that stays usable
We plan the edit around where the material needs to work: website, report, recruiting, social and more. Not around a single post the week after the shoot.
Let’s talk about what you are planning.
Tell us what is happening and when. If we are not free or not the right team for it, we will tell you directly.
