Portraits
Individuals, couples and families — at home, or somewhere that means something to you.
The brief
A portrait should still feel true in ten years.
Matching outfits in a field can date quickly. Your kitchen on a Sunday morning, or the coast you drive to every summer, tends not to.
So we shoot where your life actually happens, give it ninety unhurried minutes, and let children be children instead of asking them to sit still and smile.
Selected work
People, up close
A mixed set from portrait sessions at home, outside, and in the studio.
Possible deliverables
Agreed with you beforehand and written into the offer.
01
Time, not a slot
Long enough for everyone to settle in and stop thinking about the camera. With small children, the first half hour is often simply time to arrive.
02
A place with meaning
Your home, the allotment, the harbour, the woods behind the house. We scout the light and suggest a time of day.
03
Everyone, and each of you
A group frame made for print, plus individual portraits of each person — including the parent who is usually behind the camera.
04
The finished set
In a private gallery, in colour and — where it suits the picture — in black and white.
05
Help getting them printed
Advice on which frames deserve a wall and how to get them printed. Photographs on a wall outlive photographs on a phone.
What a session includes is agreed beforehand and written into the offer.
The process
How a session runs
01
Short call
Who is in the picture, what it is for, and which place actually matters to you.
02
Time and light
We suggest a time based on the location and the light rather than forcing every session into the same slot.
03
The session
Mostly walking, talking and letting things happen. A few directed frames at the end.
04
Gallery and prints
Once the gallery is ready, you receive the agreed selection and, if you want, help deciding what should become a print.
Example scopes
Sessions in and around Hamburg; for locations further away, travel is part of the offer.
One person
Single portrait
One location, without hurrying. For an application, a milestone, or simply because there is no good picture of you.
Possible elements:
- One location
- A focused set
- Agreed crops
A family
Family session
At home and outside. Group frames plus individual portraits of everyone.
Possible elements:
- Home and outside
- Group and individual frames
- Print help
Ongoing
Once a year
The same session every year in the same place. Children change fast, and a series shows it better than one picture.
Possible elements:
- A session each year
- Matched look
- Print series
Before we start
Clothes you already like, in tones that sit together rather than matching exactly. If it helps, we can send a few notes beforehand.
That is completely fine. We do not ask children to sit still and pose. We follow what they are doing and, where possible, plan the session around naps and meals.
Grey Hamburg light is soft and rarely a problem. In heavy rain, we can reschedule or move indoors depending on the session.
No. Selection and editing are part of the work, and raw files are not the finished photographs. You receive the finished selection in the agreed resolution and for the agreed use.
Often booked together

Add the voice to the portrait — a documentary film about the person, not just their face.
