Approach
One process.Every project different.
How we work with you, from the first message to the delivered files. The same seven steps every time, adapted to what your project actually needs.
The two halves
A reliable process is not the same as a standard product.
Every project we take follows the same seven steps. That gives you a clear basis for timing, price and delivery instead of leaving those things open until the end.
What changes is what happens inside those steps. A conference and a family portrait share a process, not a shot list. We ask what the material has to achieve, who will see it and what you need afterwards, then build the shoot around those answers.
The same every time
Seven steps, in order. A written scope before the shoot. Agreed delivery dates. One contact throughout, and that contact is one of us.
Different every time
The brief, the shot approach, the number of days, the deliverables, the pace on set and the way we handle people in front of the camera.
A to Z
Seven steps, every project
Between two weeks and twelve months, depending on scope. The order never changes.
Step01/ 07
Understand
01–02
You write, we answer — usually within one working day, and personally. If we are not free or not the right team, you hear that immediately rather than after a week of pitching.
A (video) call or a coffee, twenty to ninety minutes depending on the project. We want the decision behind the request: what has to change once the material exists, and who has to be convinced.
Plan
03–04
An offer including scope, days, people, deliverables, delivery dates, price. Nothing to decode, nothing hidden in a package name.
The unglamorous part that decides the result. Schedule, locations, access, permissions, gear, light, the list of people and moments that cannot be missed.
Create
05
Two of us - if needed. Quiet, working around your day rather than through it. We are there before it starts and stay until the part that matters is over.
Deliver
06–07
We cut hard first, then grade what survives. Fewer images, better used. Film goes through a rough cut, you give feedback, then we do the fine cut.
A private gallery, files named and cropped for the agreed channels, with usage rights in writing. During the agreed archive period, we keep the material safe and accessible.
The same process, three different projects
What individual means in practice
Pick a project type and see how the same steps change with the project.
The conversation takes an afternoon in the venue with your comms team; the shoot follows a five-phase schedule; the first images go out during the break.
02 — The conversation
An afternoon in the venue with your comms team, walking the rooms in running order.
05 — On the day
A five-phase schedule: arrivals, keynote, panels, breaks, evening. Both of us, split by room.
07 — Delivery
A first set during the break, cropped for the channels your team posts to that same day.
The questions everyone asks
Before we start
Authorship stays with us. For business commissions you get a simple, non-exclusive right of use for your own corporate communication — website, social, newsletter, recruiting, presentations, print, trade fairs, press work — with no time limit and no territory limit, and it takes effect once the invoice is paid. For private commissions — weddings, portraits, Life Stories — the same applies to private use: storing, printing, albums, sharing with family and friends, and your own private social media profiles. A second tier is agreed by licence rather than assumed: commercial and promotional use, paid advertising, out-of-home, TV, packaging and merchandise, use by partners, sponsors or service providers, resale, and training generative AI on the files. Showing the work in our own portfolio is covered by our terms; confidential material and unreleased products stay out of it, and you can object at any time.
There are two of us, which is the first answer: for most jobs one of us can cover the essential part alone. If both of us are out, you hear it without delay, and we look for either a new date or a suitable stand-in — always agreed with you, never sent unannounced. If neither can be arranged, the fee for what we did not deliver falls away and payments made on it come back; anything already delivered and usable stays billable.
Up to six months after the project, unless we agree otherwise. In that time a lost download can usually be supplied again. After that the raw material may be deleted without asking. Longer archiving we are glad to arrange — say the word before the six months are up and we agree it in writing. Once the finished files are handed over, keeping your own copy safe is yours, and we recommend doing it the day they arrive.
You choose which way it runs, and we agree it before the shoot. Either you pick image by image in a private gallery and we finish only what you select, or we hand over a set that is already curated and edited. For portraits, weddings and personal work most people want the gallery; for business projects most ask for the curated set, because choosing between four hundred frames is work nobody has time for.
At an event, informing guests is yours to do — we bring the notice and the signage and tell you what belongs in the invitation. If someone says on the day that they do not want to be photographed, pass it on to us and we will avoid them as far as it can practically be done. For anyone photographed individually we collect written consent, and consent to publish is asked separately from consent to photograph. Saying no changes nothing about the price. Whether a picture of a person may later be published by you is yours to check; our own portfolio use is agreed separately.
Nothing is binding until you confirm in text form. Enquiry, call, offer and even a held date cost nothing, and an offer stays open unless it says otherwise. Once you confirm, the date is blocked — we do not double-book, and a stand-in is only ever used in agreement with you.
Now tell us about your project.
The process is the same for everyone. The conversation about your project is not — and that is where it starts.
